This is a weak choice for this week folks we have a return to the dark recess of the mind with the 2nd in the video game series that is Silent Hill and a political activist thriller, semi-industrialist film that gets really lost on what it is all about in A Dark Truth.
I am only leading into this weeks like this as I was hoping for better from both films, many moons ago I used to play Silent Hill on the PS2 really enjoyed the first film was creepy in some parts.
For the other Andy Garcia & Forest Whitaker had me interested just by seeing their names on the cover.
A former CIA operative turned political talk show host is hired by a corporate whistle blower to expose her company's cover-up of a massacre in a South American village.
Overall this is not a bad film, but then again this is not something that I feel that it was one of those films that you must see, those are far and few between these days.
Jack Begosian(Andy Garcia)is a retired CIA agent that is now a talk show host of a show called "The Truth" not like Rush Limbaugh or Howard Stern but more about things that make the world spin and what makes us all unique etc. That for me would have been more interesting had they made it like "Talk Radio" the 1988 film about a Dallas talk show host, yes I know that film was already made however that might have played out better and then have him narrate more better scenes in the film.
There is a man and his family that are running for their lives as he is being blamed for the toxins that are in the water and he is trying to just stay alive. This is where the film really has troubles keeping hold of what is trying to do/go, there are heroes but we are never let in on the secret-you start alienating your audience then you lost them.
There is corruption in the company that is getting the water to the poor country, the sister of the company hires Jack to do one more for the team(so to speak)to get Francis out and back to turn the tables on her own company?Had a better actress been playing the role then maybe I could be convinced.This could have been so much better had the right director/writer handled it but instead we get Damien Lee(Ski School & Abraxas , Guardian of the Universe)
yeah OK then.
More than the previous film I was hoping for a good thrill ride, well sadly didn't even get a jolt or anything.
There are the same bumps in the night, lights flickering and the same cinematography with the tired scenes of them explaining all that happened to them in the first film.
There was more a prominent feel of doom when the air horn blew in the first film, here it is more of a smoke alarm with little excitement of the impending doom at all.There was only one time in the film where I was actually happy was there is a brief cameo with Malcolm McDowell but it is so short a scene with him it is not worth recommending
I was actually happy when the credits rolled on this one calling it an end -hopefully for good.
