(Story Synopsis)
An art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals
partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting.
There are many a director these days that do good work Danny Boyle(Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) fits into that group even though I do not care for all of his films, this one is stellar.
Simon(James McAvoy)is in a mess he helped the robbers get away with the painting but when all that went down Simon hit his head and has amnesia -not remembering what he did with the painting has him in some pretty hot water.
They are serious about getting the painting back and actually hire a hypnotist to go back into the back of his brain and find out where the painting is.
She is successful to a point she still cannot find out where the painting is -she is doing her best.
With Simon being the only one that knows where it is if he could just remember, she then sends him on many Trances and Hypnotises him to further back into his memory, there are some real wow moments in this film with his great work that he did directing "Trainspotting" many years ago he has really defined his craft here and we are with Simon and his many trips --so are they along for the ride(see below)
For some scenes they are all with him in the room of his memories this is so well done for so many reasons that are so hard to explain in words-you would have to see the film for yourself to fully understand. It also helps that the actors are all so convincing in their roles as well.
Just when you think it is all over there is something else happening and wow there is just so much good stuff here, easily one of my favorites of the year!
There are also some great scenes where Simon wakes himself up from telling her too much information(see below)
That is about all that I am going to share with you about this film, if you like thrillers where you(the audience)has to do some thinking then this one will deliver for you.
