There are films in which are clear what they are about then there are ones like this where nothing is really clear, but has a story to tell so you stick around to watch what happens.
We follow Aila on her journey of a young native woman in the
Red Crow Mi'g Maq reservation-she is tough growing up has built a shell around herself but has a strong caring for her other grandma, that has practically raised her.
Story Synopsis:
Red Crow Mi'g Maq reservation, 1976: By government decree, every Indian child under the age of 16 must attend residential school. In the kingdom of the Crow, that meansimprisonment at St. Dymphna's. That means being at the mercy of "Popper", the sadistic Indian agent who runs the school.
This is not a cheery upbeat film at all if any of you reading this know of the history of this school's treatment of natives -then you have some idea what the film is about. Even with the heavy overtones you cannot be anything but impressed with all the work involved here.
But more than just a look at some bad things but also an understanding of things outside our realm as well.
This has some great work done by all involved and one of the better films I have seen this year.
