When I say Robert Redford you think "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" or "The Natural" or many others in his very long career. Now when I say The Sundance Film Festival you might know that Mr Redford runs that particular festival but has also has helped shape the face of Independent Film and the people that make these films.
Some history of the festival:

Originally founded by Robert Redford in the mountains of Sundance, Utah, Sundance Institute has always provided a space for independent artists to explore their stories free from commercial and political pressures. By providing year-round creative and financial support for the development of original stories for the screen and stage, Sundance Institute remains committed to its mission to discover and develop independent artists and audiences across the globe.
The festival has helped the careers of Joel & Ethan Coen , Jim Jarmusch, John Sayles these are some of the filmmakers awarded on the first initial festival back in 1985.
Move ahead to 2005 and The Squid & The Whale would walk away with best directing in Drama & The Waldo Salt Screen writing Award.
They have no list of last years awards.
They have introduced a teaming up with Quiver Digital and what this enables the filmmaker to do is to have their film(s) entered into the systems database and then have their film pushed to ITunes, Amazon, Netflix, Google Play , Vudu & Sony Entertainment Network all at once and in one place.
No longer does the filmmaker have to contact each individual distributor which can and has been very time consuming.

This service is only through the Artist's Services Initiative which has been providing this service since 2011. This allows the filmmakers to have access to funding , self distribution & marketing tatics.
