Story Synopsis:
20 years after a psychotic episode in Pearl Lake on October 30th 1988, the so-called events of “missing people” begin again. Oldest son, Ethan Pearl and brother Jacob intricately select a cast of stars (Jade, Heather, Gene, Milton, & Crew) in an attempt to produce a Pearl Lake horror film based on their traumatic childhood. While
scouting and rehearsing, the group encounters several eery mishaps and a tyrannical maniac.
Ethan leads Jade down a perceived path to safety, but when she continues to search for answers, she realizes this isn’t an ordinary film, or an ordinary director.
Let me start by saying that not many writer/directors put on as many hats as Ryan Byrne(above) has done here.
He produced and was one of the co-executive producers , helped in many areas such as editing, casting, sound supervisor, supervising dialogue editor, folly artist, location scout, post production supervisor , also wrote 2 of the songs in the film as well played the adult character of Ethan Pearl.
We first start off 30 years before the characters reach the age where we catch them trying to make a movie, the strength was the first part of the film which I found to have the better story. That being said this also was interesting but found it to drag in certain parts , but all in all this is a decent film for a first feature film.
I really appreciate getting to see this film as it is currently only being shown at festivals and will be available on DVD in the spring 2016.
Canadian Films always have a harder time reaching an audience for the makers and stars are usually not household names , also for the most part most of my friends and family will not even go out of their way to watch a Canadian film--which is a shame as there is such a talent pool of people here.
I think with the right amount of push for this little film it can find itself an audience and Ryan Byrne can get some credit for all the work he put into it as well.
