Cult Classics: Die Hard December 30th, 2016

In exactly a week's time Jon Aaron will be giving us a belated Christmas present by bringing back to the big screen for one night the greatest Action film of all time DIE HARD.

The film has been popular since it's starting date of July 1988, it starred Bruce Willis who had just been on Moonlighting had quite the success with that show and not being a fan of the show was not quite sure if he was the best man for the job. The producers gave the entire cast and crew 11 days off the job as his co-star Cybill Shepherd was pregnant with twins while he was busy shooting this. After the success of this film a new career launched for Bruce Willis that was a major film star and he has never looked back.

I had read the book that the film is based on and found it refreshing that the criminals and the police were both written as smart usually in most movies/television shows the police are buffoons as in The Dukes of Hazzard or Smokey & The Bandit series.

The film had such an iconic figure in the film that wears a wife beater/muscle shirt that it was put in The Smithsonian in 2007. Bruce Willis donated it  to the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.

There are some great characters in this film, however this would not work as well if it were not for the villain Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman's first starring role as well)and his loyal yet lethal group of thugs and their smart plans to take over Nakatomi Plaza and get the barabond's that are located in the vault, they have nasty ways to get what they want. What they were not expecting was New York City police officer John McClane that was invited to town--which is Los Angeles by his wife Holly Genero (Bonnie Bedelia) they bicker back and forth a lot but still love each other.

There is the constant argument about whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not. While it is not a full out Ebenezer Scrooge type of holiday movie , it does take place during the companies Christmas party and the gang of thugs are just party crashers.

Here is a fun look at the Die Hard movie -here is an Honest Trailer edition from Screen Junkies:

The movie will play on December 30th, 2016 in Pitt Meadows sure hope you can join us for this festive film I will be there!

Thank you for reading this

Sincerely
