VICTORIA, BC –UNO Fest shows connect through humor & personal histories and reminds us we are never alone

While the actors and storytellers are alone on stage at UNO Fest, these solo shows reveal our shared humanity through humor and loss, connecting communities and sharing personal stories

to remind us that we are never truly alone.

Intrepid Theatre’s UNO Fest returns May 1 – 11 for the 22nd installment.

This 11-day festival showcases an eclectic mix of theatre, storytelling,

puppetry, music, and outside of the box audience encounters from across Canada. This year’s festival features storytelling treasures from the Fringe alongside some of the country’s most acclaimed artists, plus a

free site-specific pop-up city of stories to explore.

UNO Fest highlights include: Gemini award-winning Cree artist Michelle Thrush (Blackstone and North of 60) opens the festival with Inner Elder; a journey of transformation through real-life memories and bouffon clown as Thrush explores her own inner elder.

Comedian Jan Derbyshire's Certified is irreverent fun as Derbyshire turns

the audience into a mental health review board to determine her current

state of sanity as she places her own mental health at the heart of the show.

The Jim Henson Foundation developed my dear Lewis makes its Canadian premiere. This stunning piece of small-scale theatre from Kyle Loven combines puppetry, objects, video, and music in unexpected and beautiful ways in a story of loss and memory.

Fringe favourites from the 2018 festival return: Cory Thibert’s intimate

Awkward Hug transports us to navigating adulthood for the first name

and asks what normal parents look like;

Josh Langugedoc’s Rocko & Nakota: Tales from the Land crosses

generations and brings to life Anishinaabe stories, and the acapella beatbox stylings of Carey Wass take over in Carey-OK! : Timeless Timely Tunes.

Two new shows from BC-based creators: REALBOY, Victoria's Atomic Vaudeville, and Britt Small revisit their UNO 2018 show, an investigation into smashing the patriarchy and reimagining superheroes; HEATSEEKER is a collaboration between musician Hank Pine and theatre artist Jenson Kerr

that is pulled from the steamy corners of online hook-ups.

Trophy is a free outdoor performance installation that transforms Fernwood Square with a cluster of tents and storytellers in a pop-up city of stories. Audiences move through a series of illuminated tents where nine community storytellers are stationed in this intimate site-specific installation.
