SYNOPSIS:

In a kingdom ruled by a young and unpredictable king, the military commander has a secret weapon: a “shadow”, a look-alike who can fool both his enemies and the King himself.  Now he must use this weapon in an intricate plan that will lead his people to victory in a war that the King does not want.

This was not an easy tale to tell, yet when you have a masterful storyteller such as Zhang Yimou he makes it seem as easy as breathing.

From the opening frame to the last we are treated to lavish robes and outfits that just fit the place in time so well.

The story is good, however, the trailer for the film does the movie some minor harm as it makes it look like an action film. Don't get me wrong there is action starting about midway through the film and some of the action shots are so incredibly well shot that my jaw was open in awe.

The scenes with the umbrellas were staggering and I am still amazed at the cinematography, direction, and editing all worked together to make all the scenes so smooth.

There is a scene near the end of the film when they sneak a great number of their soldiers into the enemies back yard(so to speak)just some brilliant visuals and clever storytelling.

The actors overall do a great job of helping bring us back to this time.

There is a King, a Princess, and a Shadow in this film each has their own wish, you will have to watch to see who gets theirs fulfilled.

Here is the trailer.

Thank you for reading this

Sincerely

Anthony Nadeau
