Movie Reviews: The First King & Kung Fu League(Well Go USA)

I was recently sent a copy of each of the films mentioned above. Unlike a lot of movies that I review these are actual physical copies of the films for review, which I am happy to add to my already massive collection of films.

Sent to me from Well Go USA and made possible from the people at Taro PR.

Story Synopsis:

Romulus and Remus, two shepherds and loyal brothers, end up taking part to a journey that will lead one of them to be the founder of the greatest nation ever seen. However, the fate of the chosen one will pass from killing his own brother.

The film opens up with the two brothers in an opening in a forest, one is repeating a prayer while the other paces and keeps watch for something that he keeps saying they need to move.

Before they have time to react a huge wave of water comes barreling through the forest toppling the trees and headed straight for the two brothers.

They are then swept away by the massive amount of water that sweeps through the valley, the are thrown around and swept under and beaten and bruised from trees and rocks that suddenly appear.

They are captured and made to fight other men to the death, the two brothers are set to fight each other and then stage an attack and get away with the other captors.

Upon their journey as we follow them, they have a number of battles, the best one starts with a sneak attack that is obvious where that was staged in the picture below.

The lead actors are really quite good in their roles and I also liked that there was not a romance sequence with one of the brothers and the young woman who was a foe is now an ally. Something that is so familiar in Hollywood movies, which this clearly is not.

The outcome of the movie is already clear from the beginning and not sure if it is historically accurate or not but this works as movie and for pure entertainment purposes.

In very much a satire of many martial arts films of the past, we have a loner/loser that is interested in a woman -who has also the interest of a very successful businessman, who is her cousin. She really has no interest in him. Our lead feels that he cannot do it on his own --so he calls upon some martial arts masters.

I really appreciated the energy of this film, it never really slows down. Most of the jokes are wasted here as they don't really fit the scenes they are written for, other than that it was quite enjoyable.

It's really the four masters that he has been able to get to come to help him in his time of need, it works both ways though. For them to go back to their time in history they must fulfill the request or they will be stuck in our time. There are some really great fight scenes and the best is what I thought was The Beast from Kung Fu Hustle, but he did do the choreography of the action scenes, that is, of course, Siu-Hung Leung.

This is not a great film but still has a lot of good fight scenes where I can recommend it

This scene above was the best part of the movie for me.

Thank you for reading this

Sincerely
