Carmen Movie Review-In Select Theaters Across Canada Starts August 19, 2022, VOD Sept 30(Vortex Media)

There are some movies that grab you right from the opening frame, this is one of those movies. Everything looks so great in the film, the scenery comes alive with the cinematography, such a beautifully shot film.

Carmen is in servitude to her brother who is the local priest, because of this she has not experienced anything outside of the church.

One day he sadly passes away when she was bringing him food, she is grief-stricken and attends his funeral at the church.

She is slightly made fun of by two of the women sitting slightly ahead of her, to the left mostly because she is quiet.

Natasha McElhone is fantastic here in her performance, there is not a false movement or moment she is as authentic in the performance here as she usually is.

The film is based on a true story and was shot in Malto and the visuals of the small town really bring life alive for Carmen, she's now glowing as she is experiencing life like she never has before.

There is a unique experience with a local pidgeon that needs to be seen, as a description would not do the scene(s) justice.

Something as simple as sitting on a bench and people-watching and having some food is something that we can take for granted, but every movement of the people around her makes her smile as if it is all new to her.

She has been "borrowing" money from the church, with a promise to the large statue of Jesus that she will pay it back, she is able to eat and buys herself a lovely red dress that she sees in a store window.

This is where I feel she really becomes alive, she is restarting her life, that from a young age was meant to be a servant, but also she has a love that was lost because of his race.

Carmen is a simple story, yet so full of life, a life that she should have known since birth. Because of the story and the performance of Natasha Mchelone.

The performances are some of the best I have seen this year and Carmen, the movie is easily one of my favorite films of the year, without a doubt.
