‘THE DOGS’, A Feature Film Adaptation Of Allan Stratton's Book Of The Same Name, From CARMEN Director Valerie Buhagiar-Production Begins!

Toronto, ON, October 28, 2022  Principal photography begins on Wild Media Entertainment’s new feature film The Dogs, directed by Valerie Buhagiar (Carmen).

The film is an adaptation of Allan Stratton’s best-seller and critically acclaimed novel of the same name. The key cast will include Donovan Colan (Spirit Halloween, Zoe), Kathleen Munroe (Patriot, The Void), Asher Grayson (Kids vs. Aliens, Tuff Boy) and Kris Holden-Reid (Departure, Umbrella Academy). Filming will take place in Northern Ontario.

Thirteen-year-old Cameron Weaver and his mom have been running from Cameron’s psychotic father for many years. Or maybe his mom kidnapped him? Cameron wishes he knew for sure.

Their latest rental is a dilapidated farmhouse near the quiet town of Wolf Hollow. The previous owner, Frank McTavish, was killed by his own guard dogs shortly after his wife ran off with their son, Jacky, and her lover.

The current owner, Art Sinclair, lives on the next farm over and tends both properties. He was Jacky’s childhood friend. Sinclair has secrets, and Cameron is determined to find out what they are.

When Cameron discovers a collection of child’s drawings indicating abuse, it compels him to probe deeper into the history of the house and its former occupants. Soon, he starts to hear and see the ghost of Jacky, who insists he never left the farm with his mother. Cameron suspects Frank McTavish killed them both. But is Jacky even real? Or is Cameron losing his mind?

As Cameron falls deeper down the rabbit hole, he starts to question his own sanity. Is he uncovering a cold case with the help of a murdered boy? Or suffering a mental breakdown, projecting fears of his own father onto the events of the past?

Maybe some secrets are better left buried.

"The Dogs is a powerful script beyond being a genre film, it has a poignancy that chills. Our young protagonist fearlessly propels us forward in search of the truth and doing what is right. This is the kind of story I want to tell,” says director Valerie Buhagiar.

The film is produced by Wild Media Entertainment in association with 2ofaMind Productions and funded in part by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC). Producers include James Milligan, Anthony Artibello, Sheila Rogerson and Jason Jallet. Paul Flint, Kevin C. Bjerkness, Perry Dellelce and Brad Pelman serve as Executive Producers. The film is currently out to market seeking domestic and international distribution.
