Award-Winning Feature Film “Until Branches Bend” From Vancouver-Based Writer/Director Sophie Jarvis Set For Theatrical Premiere Across Canada On March 20th

Announced recently is the theatrical premiere of the Canadian Screen Award-nominated feature film Until Branches Bend starting on March 20th across Canada.

                                                     writer/director Sophie Jarvis

The debut feature film from Vancouver-based writer/director Sophie Jarvis was filmed in the beautiful Okanagan region of BC and begins screening across BC, Ontario, Alberta, and  Winnipeg, and Montréal later in the month, with extended runs in Vancouver and Toronto. The cast and crew will be in attendance at select screenings.

The award-winning film, which had its world premiere at TIFF 2022, features a haunting soundtrack with vocals from this year's Juno-nominated ensemble music intima. Until Branches Bend was recently announced as an official selection at SXSW, where the film will have its US premiere alongside some of the world's most talented filmmakers. Sophie is also nominated for the SXSW Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award, which will be presented this month.

Filmed on 16mm in British Columbia’s picturesque Okanagan region, the taut psychological drama observes Robin (Grace Glowicki), a pregnant cannery worker who discovers an invasive insect in a peach. Her struggle to prove to her community that the danger the insect poses is real is underscored by her personal struggle to seek an abortion. As her obsession alienates her from friends and family, she sinks deeper into her task. Until Branches Bend reveals how trouble beneath the surface will always come to light.

Until Branches Bend features a terrific cast helmed by award-winning actor and filmmaker Grace Glowicki (Tito, Raf) and Alexandra Roberts in her breakthrough role as Laney. The cast is rounded out by wonderful performances from Quelemia Sparrow (Motherland: Fort Salem), Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), and Antoine Des Rochers (Antigone). The film won Best BC Film at the Vancouver International Film Festival, the prestigious Prix de Soleure 2023 at Solothurner Filmtage, a CMPA Indiescreen Award, was nominated in six categories at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards and has been nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards including Original Screenplay for Jarvis and Achievement in Visual Effects.
