March 23, 2023 - CBC announced this morning that its original comedy series Son Of A Critch will be renewed for a third season with filming in Newfoundland beginning this summer. The series is produced by Project 10 Productions Inc. and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television. Lionsgate handles worldwide distribution rights outside Canada.

This season, SON OF A CRITCH is the most-watched English Canadian comedy series and CBC's most-watched program with 18-49 and 25-54 audiences.* The Season 2 finale airs Tuesday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m. (9 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.

Created by Mark Critch (This Hour has 22 Minutes) and Tim McAuliffe (writer/producer of NBC's The Office, FOX's Last Man on Earth and NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon), the series is produced by Schitt’s Creek Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning producer Andrew Barnsley and stars Critch, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Disney's Pinocchio) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).

Based on comedian Mark Critch’s award-winning, best-selling memoir, Son of a Critch is the hilarious and very real story of 12-year-old Mark coming of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the 80s.

"I'm honoured to have such talented people bringing my life story to the screen," says Mark Critch. "It's a joy to start work each day. I'm so happy to see some of their hard work being recognized."

"Getting to make this show with such an amazing group of talented, kind, and funny people - in the beautiful city of St. John's - is the greatest reward I could ever ask for!” adds Tim McAuliffe.

"It was incredible to see the public embrace the show and now we're so excited to see it being renewed for a third season," says Andrew Barnsley, executive producer Project 10.

"Mark Critch is an incredible talent, and we are excited to continue sharing his hilarious and heartwarming family history with audiences across Canada," says Trish Williams, Executive Director, Scripted Content, CBC. "Son Of A Critch has an amazing team both in front of and behind the camera, and we’re looking forward to seeing where they take the Critch family next in the new season."

“Since the launch of our first season, it has been clear that this heartfelt comedy resonates with a global audience,” said Agapy Kapouranis, President of International Television and Digital Distribution, Lionsgate. “We’re excited for fans to see what this incredible creative team has in store for season three.”

Son of a Critch is executive produced by Critch, McAuliffe, Barnsley, and Allan Hawco. Renuka Jeyapalan, Perry Chafe and Anita Kapila serve as co-producers.
