Migration Movie Review --Now Available On 4K, Blu-Ray & DVD

I was sent a 4K copy of the film to review, which also includes a Blu-Ray. I will have that at the end of this review.

I watched this film knowing very little about it, other than seeing the trailer and it looked fun. Well, fun can't quite describe the little adventure that we get to go on with this family of mallard ducks. All five members of the family are such distinctly different characters, with Mack(Dad) being the most anxious duck since Daffy I think I have seen.

Quite content in their little pond, free of any dangers of the world, most of all keeping his kids safe from the awful predators that lurk outside the pond--at least the bedtime stories he tells them.

It's no secret that they do leave the pond and head off to Migration, it is, after all the title of the film. They first come across a few herons who are more than hospitable.

Next is the big city, a good number of pigeons, and a chef who has a great fondness for ducks, yes in every possible way. But he has a favorite kind of way to present them.

There are two very subtle nods of respect & love that I noticed, which I thought might be briefly discussed in the bonus features on the disc. The first is when Mack & Pam are first settling down for the night and there is a slight, musical reference to the music of  Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf (1936).

The other piece is a little more noticeable and that is the chef in the film has a tattoo on his neck of the wolf chasing the mallard duck from the Walt Disney short of the same name.(pic below)

I remember seeing the short before Oh, God!, with my sister and grandparents in the theater, back in the day when they had a short animated film before the feature.

I think the last film that had that was Honey, I Shrunk The Kids(1989)

They have a few more adventures on the way and run into some really fun and crazy other birds in the film, overall this is just a joyful 1 hr 22 mins for the entire family, without it being too long for the younger members of the family.

For most collectors of physical media, the most popular format has been and still is DVD, Blu-Ray is 2nd. DVD is cheaper than the other formats, and most households have not upgraded to Blu-Ray or even 4K.

There is an additional hour of extra bonus content with a lot of fun crafts for the family to do. You can learn how to draw some of the birds in the film, which is helpful when they teach you how to make your own pop-up book. A lot of behind-the-scenes segments, which I have always been a fan of--hint-hint.

The movie looks great, I had initially seen it through a screening link last year, so with the 4K & even the Blu-Ray the colors are so bold and I really enjoyed everything about the film. The shorts are fun, but the one I enjoyed the most was Fly Hard, it was centered around Chump and the pigeons who meet a nice old lady at the park.
