Orson Welles scared the world when he put The War of the Worlds on the radio back in 1938, about a possible alien invasion. People who were listening didn't know that this was a radio drama, it all started with a weather report & music before it all started.
We have evolved since then, but The Blair Witch Project had a similar effect on the public back in 1999. Trailers for the film made the disappearance of these three young filmmakers was true, which would help launch what we know as the found footage film.
Lily Sullivan( Evil Dead Rise), plays an unnamed out-of-work journalist, who finds herself working on a podcast, under pressure to get her first episode up on the air.
We follow her through each day and her calls, emails, etc no other actors are in the film, just voices through her headset or on the phone, all of which she pretty much records.
This is a story of a brick, or many bricks that have been given to people all over the world when she receives a mysterious email from an anonymous sender with details on a person to contact around a brick, It turns out they received it 20 years ago and has a hard time remembering the details, or choose not to, one can the woman is hesitant to share much.As she starts to gather information from around the world, there is an uncertain tension that slowly builds up through the rest of the film, we are not sure--apparently, there is something bad that is going to happen and one caller even warns her to stop what she is doing.
I found myself anticipating what was going to happen next, Lily Sullivan really commands the screen with, a very good performance, it's a one-person show through the entire film. One late night a package arrives with shredded paper(above) she takes the time to place them together, like a puzzle, kind of freaky what appears. This worked for me, knowing very little about the film before seeing it really helps, which is why I am not saying much about it here in the review.
