Ordinary Angels-Movie Review In Theaters February 23, 2024- Hilary Swank Shows Us The Heart Of An Angel--Lionsgate

When I saw the trailer for this movie last fall, I knew that I wanted to see it, little did I know how good it was going to be. With so many films and TV shows that are based on a true story, a lot of them just don't work for whatever reason.

Hilary Swank plays Sharon, a hairdresser who has some of her own problems, she drinks too much and has a friend who tries to force her to join AA, without much luck. However, when Sharon is at the store buying some beer, she sees the local paper that a child, who is only five years old needs a liver. This same child lost her mother a few weeks prior and is being raised by her father, who works too hard, but his mother moves in to help with the raising of his kids.

There really isn't a false move in this film, mostly because Hilary Swank is so believable as Sharon, being this compassionate person who wants to help this family that she has never met, these are ordinary people with ordinary lives. These people are our neighbors, friends, family, someone you know has been touched by the kindness of strangers, or maybe you have yourself. I know I have on many occasions and that might be a topic I will cover eventually, but on with the review.

Equally as impressive in their roles above are Emily Mitchell and Alan Ritchson, the children here are just that kids, the set must have been a very relaxed environment for these two young girls as they seem very at ease in their performances. Certainly would have to be with the subject matter, death is never an easy thing to discuss with children, but it's handled well here.

Ed(Alan Ritchson) accepts the initial offer from Sharon(Hilary Swank), but becomes increasingly hesitant and insistent that she back off when she starts to come by the house, and one day decides to play dress up with his daughters.

Not one to accept "no" as an answer, she starts to help Ed with his bills and tries to help him get things lined up in case there is a liver that becomes available for his daughter Michelle.

                     

The amount of heart that Sharon showed for this family is beyond inspiring and shows us that we can all help those who need it, maybe we can't offer money, food or shelter, but just by letting someone know that they are cared about, can say a lot more than words often can.

                    

I only had a problem with the ending of the film, it just all seemed a little rushed. Other than that this is one of the better films I have seen this year, so far, after all, it's only February.

I think supporting these kinds of films is important, it lets the studios know that we will watch more like it, but only if they have as much heart as this one does.
