Sometimes I Think About Dying Starring Daisy Ridley--Movie Review

I think the one thing that I can take away from this movie is that Daisy Ridley really shows us how good of an actor she really is. Having played Rey in three of the Star Wars movies, with another one that has been announced that is going to be based around her character.
People will see a different performance from Daisy Ridley, a very quiet and reserved character piece.

What we get with Fran is a very quiet and very shutoff from the people she works with. We get a small glimpse of her life when she goes home from work and reads her email or watches TV, etc, nothing spectacular. But when one of the senior staff retires, a new employee comes in, Robert, who Fran kind of takes an interest in and they start seeing each other, they take it slow and things kind of get complicated between them, as do most relationships at the start are quite awkward. There are a lot of shots of her just daydreaming and fidgeting with her upper lip not feeling a real sense of what she's thinking she's very poker face almost, and there's no real emotion that one can sense what she is thinking or feeling. So when she starts getting together with Robert she starts to come out of that shell, reluctantly it seems, it's clearly not something she's used to.

The movie has a different approach to the "office romance" story, it has an innocence and charm about it in a way. Robert doesn't force himself on anyone but wants to get to know Fran a little better, even if it's just friends. The only trouble is Fran is so shut off, that it's hard to tell if it will happen.

There is a point in the film where Fran is quite sad and spends a good day or more just lying on the floor, we are there with her, just observing. She lays there quietly, with no outside noise, until the school bus arrives down the street from her house. Fran makes no sudden movements, just allowing herself time to figure things out. I applaud the filmmakers for allowing this moment to be in the film, as it is a vital turning point for Fran, but you will have to watch the film to see how much that is.
