ANGELA'S SHADOW features a remarkable Indigenous cast including Sera-Lys McArthur (Outlander) and Koostachin's son Asivak Koostachin (Montana Story, Portraits from a Fire) who was named alongside her as a Variety rising star in 2022 and is also starring in the upcoming JJ Abrams HBO Max series Duster. Matthew Kevin Anderson, Renae Morriseau, Mahiigan Koostachin and David H. Lyle are also featured.


In ANGELA'S SHADOW Angela (Sera-Lys McArthur) and Henry (Matthew Kevin Anderson), a young Ottawa couple with a baby on the way, embark on a short trip north to the Cree community of KiiWeeTin to visit Angela’s beloved childhood nanny, Mary (Renae Morriseau). When Angela is harassed by a menacing shadow figure, Mary moves to bless and protect Angela and her unborn child with illegal Cree ceremonies and medicine. And as Angela discovers the truth about both her ancestry and the spectral figure’s identity, she must delve into her newfound spiritual traditions in order to defend herself from her husband’s escalating purity-obsessed racism.

Dr. Jules Arita Koostachin received the Best BC Film Award at VIFF for her National Film Board of Canada for her documentary WaaPaKe (Tomorrow). This deeply personal documentary unravels the tangled threads of silence suffered by residential school Survivors, including members of Koostachin’s own family, through truth, freedom and power. After a year-long festival and community circuit, the National Film Board will make the film available for free streaming across Canada on their platform nfb.ca, starting September 30th, 2024.
