The Chinatown Diner --First Feature Film From Lawrence Le Lam Starring Aileen Wu- Set For A Festival Run In 2025

VANCOUVER, BC (September 19, 2024) — Foreshadow Films and Cheerful Pictures in association with Crazy8s Film Society are proud to share the first look teaser trailer of Lawrence Le Lam’s dramatic feature film debut THE CHINATOWN DINER.

The film was shot in Vancouver’s Chinatown, and Richmond and is set for a festival run in 2025.

The Telefilm Talent to Watch film follows Rikki Meng, played by Aileen Wu (Alien: Romulus), a beatmaker who falls in love with the The Chinatown Diner; a soon-to-be-demolished diner by day and underground hip-hop club by night. She sets out to save this beloved community stable her real estate tycoon father is trying to destroy. Meanwhile The Immortals, a hip hop group from the near future, narrate the story in their divine podcast. THE CHINATOWN DINER is a coming-of-age drama, with sprinkles of crime drama, hip-hopera, and horror.

The film is headlined by breakout star Aileen Wu who recently saw her Hollywood debut in Alien: Romulus, Curtis Lum (The Night Agent, Siren, Supergirl), Andrea Bang (Kim’s Convenience, Float), Olivia Cheng (Warrior, Deadly Class) and Tzi Ma (Mulan, Arrival).

The film proudly features an incredible mostly Asian cast and explores the social fabrics of Vancouver’s historic Chinatown. Both in front of and behind the camera, Canadian filmmaker Lam’s first feature promises to be a stylish, fresh, and edgy celebration of Asian culture, Asian hip-hop / lofi music, and oh-so-delicious food.

THE CHINATOWN DINER is written, directed and edited by Lawrence Le Lam (Cypher, The Blue Jet) and co-written by Alex Love Kink (Mr. James is Dead). The film is produced by Thomas Affolter (Altona, Jeffrey) and Lynne Lee (Obscura, Amanda Sum’s Different Than Before). The director of photography is award-winning cinematographer Leonardo Harim (With Love and a Major Organ, Donkeyhead), the production designer Jacqueline Miller (Jeffrey, Meditation 4 Black Women) and the editors are Lam and Affolter. The casting director was Ciarra Cook (Resident Alien, Broil). The executive producers are Paul Armstrong (Lawrence & Holloman, Cool Daddy), Erin Mussolum (Bye-Bye, Look Up), Liz Levine (Two Sentence Horror Stories, Ruby and the Well) and Charles Chang.
