Tribeca Films to Release Canadian Film WILD GOAT SURF in Theatres Across the US Starting on April 4th, 2025

Los Angeles, CA - Studio 104 Entertainment announced today that Wild Goat Surf, the debut feature film from director, writer, and actor Caitlyn Sponheimer (The Boys) is launching at Look Dine-In Cinemas across the US starting on April 4, 2025. The Canadian indie film stars Shayelin Martin (American Gods) as Goat, Leandro Guedes (A Million Little Things), Caitlyn Sponheimer (Transplant), and Dyllón Burnside (Pose, Thoughts of a Colored Man). The film was recently acquired by Tribeca Films, the distribution arm of Tribeca Enterprises and Giant Pictures for the US Market, and will be released on May 20th, 2025, on digital platforms including Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Sponheimer and members of the cast and crew will be at select screenings in Los Angeles, New York, and Virginia for post-screening Q&As.

Set in the sweltering summer of 2003, Wild Goat Surf unfolds in a fading RV park in Penticton, deep in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Thirteen-year-old Goat, a skateboarding misfit with an all-consuming dream of becoming a surfer, roams the long, unstructured days of youth with reckless energy. As her mother juggles two jobs and sublets their rental to make ends meet, Goat is left to her own devices, channeling her grief into wild, boundary-pushing antics that spiral beyond her control. A raw and nostalgic coming-of-age story, Wild Goat Surf has been capturing audiences’ hearts and leaving a lasting impression wherever it travels.

Award-winning Canadian filmmaker Caitlyn Sponheimer is known for her work in front of and behind the camera. She is a Directors Guild of Canada and ACTRA nominee and will be one of six female directors on the Telefilm-supported feature Moving Day, shooting summer of 2025. Sponheimer’s notable film credits include April in Autumn (Cannes Marché), Jasmine Road, and the recent feature Thanks to the Hard Work of the Elephants. Her acting credits include The Boys (Amazon), Transplant (NBC), Little Hope (Supermassive Games), and Wild Goat Surf.

Wild Goat Surf is produced by Vancouver-based Studio 104 Entertainment in association with CouKuma Productions and Surgent Studios and features the talents of writer, director, producer and star Caitlyn Sponheimer (Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, Transplant), producer Mike Johnston (I’m Just Here for the Riot, Curl Power), Director of Photography Joseph Schweers (Violent, Ash), associate producer Katia Shannon (Us & in Between, Thanks to the Hard Work of the Elephants) and executive producers Abubakar Salim (HBO Max’s Raised by Wolves) and Robert Montcalm.

The film was made possible with the support of Telefilm Canada, Bell Media (Crave), Canada Council for the Arts, SODEC, Creative BC, and Surgent Productions. Filming took place in the Okanagan in Penticton, BC, and Tofino, BC. Wild Goat Surf is distributed by Vortex in Canada and Tribeca Films in the US and territories outside of Canada.
