The Twenty-ninth Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) presents unique outdoor films and content that showcase experiences and cultures from around the world, bringing communities together to promote positive values and active lifestyles. The festival has expanded its locations to reach more adventure enthusiasts with films, documentaries, and speakers appearing in theatres throughout the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky from February 27 to March 11, 2026. The theatres include The Rio Theatre, Cinematheque in Vancouver, the Centennial Theatre and Capilano University Theatre, the West Vancouver Cricket Club, Kay Meek Art Centre on the North Shore, the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, Howe Sound Brewing and the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish. VIMFF online has adapted its shows for a virtual setting, enabling audiences to watch from home while expanding its global reach. Driven by a passion for film, culture, and the outdoors, the VIMFF Society aims to promote appreciation of film and filmmaking and to inspire, inform, and educate the public in these areas. VIMFF achieves its aim by producing film festivals and photo exhibits, and providing a forum for filmmakers, artists, outdoor enthusiasts and the public.
VIMFF 2026 will screen eight films making their first-ever public screening at. From raw expeditions to deeply human stories, these premieres offer an early look at the ideas, perspectives, and adventures shaping this year’s festival.All the films, speakers and workshops will take audiences on the most extreme adventures. Highlights include Extreme Ascents on March 7 at the Rio Theatre with award-winning adventure filmmaker and mountaineer Elia Saikaly. After more than two decades on Mt. Everest, Elia brings us beyond the summit and into the triumphs, tragedies, and mental resilience forged in the world’s most extreme environments. Drawing from ten Everest expeditions, his work offers an unfiltered look at the human drive to push limits and the cost of doing so. Through powerful imagery and firsthand accounts licensed by National Geographic, Discovery, ESPN, Netflix, and BBC.
The Women Mountaineers program highlights women whose contributions span generations of alpine history. Through film and live conversation, the night explores endurance, ambition, and the lasting impact of women who climbed despite limited recognition or support at The Cinematheque on March 2, 2026. All films presented bring their own adventure and excitement.
