A 52 Media Inc. and National Film Board of Canada co-production
People grappling with the suicide of a loved one express their grief—and their resilience—in a raw and profound gesture of empathy from renowned documentary filmmaker Alan Zweig.
If you or someone you know is struggling, the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline is available across Canada.
“Zweig’s unadorned, human approach results in one of the renowned filmmaker’s most affecting works. Without sensationalism or sentimentality, Love, Harold offers an honest meditation on grief and remembrance. Ultimately, the film is an invitation to listen, to share, and to love through the pain.”— Rachel West, That Shelf
Toronto – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
Toronto filmmaker Alan Zweig’s powerful documentary Love, Harold, a 52 Media/National Film Board of Canada (NFB) co-production, will screen in Toronto (March 29), Hamilton (March 30) and Victoria (April 7)—followed by a free national online launch on NFB.ca, YouTube and NFB apps starting April 13.
Produced in Toronto by David York (52 Media) and Kate Vollum (NFB), Love, Harold had its world premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival and was also selected to screen at Toronto’s Rendezvous with Madness Festival and the Windsor International Film Festival.
About the film
When an old friend takes his own life, Zweig seeks out others grappling with the suicide of a loved one. As hard as it can be to speak of such an unfathomable loss, more than 20 friends and acquaintances feel compelled to tell their stories. Zweig engages with them as only he can—reflecting with disarming candour on the grief and resilience of those left standing.
